About ARC

Analysis. Research.
Consulting.

ARC GbR Koehler & Gosztonyi is a Berlin-based consultancy specialising in applied social science for development cooperation, peacebuilding and governance in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.

What we do

Analysis

ARC provides analysis on relevant social and political developments in Central and South Asia — primarily Afghanistan and Pakistan — Latin America, and the successor states of the Soviet Union.

Research

ARC conducts research with a focus on conflict, conflict prevention, social and political dynamics, and the impact of state- and peacebuilding interventions. Research areas include administrative reform, judicial reform, patronage and corruption, security sector reform, subnational governance, regional development, and minority and youth issues.

Consulting

ARC offers consulting services to international organisations, government agencies, non-governmental development organisations, research and educational institutions, policy makers and the media. Clients have included the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Federal Foreign Office (AA), the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FDFA/SDC), the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the World Bank, GIZ, KfW, TACIS, Aga Khan Foundation, World Vision Germany, OSCE, the International Helsinki Federation Vienna, NUPI Oslo, and the Marshall Center Garmisch.

Our approach

ARC is committed to bridging the gap between academic research and the needs of practitioners in the field. All ARC members have a training in the social sciences and uphold research standards appropriate to that tradition.

A network of highly qualified professionals and scientists — both in Germany and in the research regions — contributes to ARC's work. ARC believes that strong regional skills, including language skills, are essential in consulting and research.

ARC provides region-specific know-how in particular during project design, monitoring and evaluation. Consulting services include educational and training measures such as lectures, trainings, workshops, interviews and background analysis.

The founding members and their associates are committed to research based on the highest standards of the social sciences, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to produce robust, evidence-based findings.
